FOMC(Federal Open Market Committee)
연방공개시장위원회는 12명으로 구성되는 연방준비제도 산하의 위원회이다. 연 8회의 정례회의를 갖고, 미국 기준금리를 결정한다.
FOMC 역할:
The Federal Reserve controls the three tools of monetary policy open market operations, the discount rate, and reserve requirements.
The Federal Reserve Act of 1913 gave the Federal Reserve responsibility for setting monetary policy. The term "monetary policy" refers to the actions undertaken by a central bank, such as the Federal Reserve, to influence the availability and cost of money and credit to help promote national economic goals.
Structure of the FOMC:
The Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) consists of twelve members the seven members of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System; the president of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York; and four of the remaining eleven Reserve Bank presidents, who serve one-year terms on a rotating basis.

The FOMC holds eight regularly scheduled meetings per year. At these meetings, the Committee reviews economic and financial conditions, determines the appropriate stance of monetary policy, and assesses the risks to its long-run goals of price stability and sustainable economic growth.

◆ Fed, 기준금리 0.25%p 인상…당분간 긴축 유지
미국 중앙은행이(Fed)는 1일(현지시간) 기준금리를 0.25%포인트(p) 인상했습니다. Fed는 이날 올해 첫 공개시장위원회(FOMC) 정례회의 뒤 성명을 통해 기준금리를 4.50~4.75%로 올린다고 발표했습니다. Fed는 성명에서 "소비와 생산 측면에서 완만한 성장이 이어지고 있고 노동시장도 견고하다"며 "인플레이션은 완화했지만 여전히 상승 국면"이라고 지적했습니다. 이어 "러시아의 우크라이나 전쟁으로 세계적인 불확실성이 증가하고 있다"며 "연준은 인플레이션 위험에 고도로 주의하고 있다"며 당분간 금리 인상 기조를 이어갈 방침을 확인했습니다. 아울러 Fed는 지난해와 마찬가지로 적정 목표 물가상승률은 2%로 제시했습니다.
