Section 1 : Verbs

동사

• 영어는 시제에 관심이 많고, 수에 관심이 많음
• 영어는 모든 동사에 대해 시제를 표현해줘야함
  • 한국어) 난 오늘 일어나서 양치하고 밥 먹고 옷 입었어.
  • 영어 ) 난 오늘 일어났고 양치했고 밥 먹었고 옷 입었어.

동사 종류 1

• be동사 : ~이다, ~에 있다.
  • 주어에 의해 모습이 바뀜
• 조동사 : 다른 동사를 돕는 역할. 의미 추가
  • can, could, will, would 주어에 상관없이 같은 모습을 유지한다.
• 일반동사 : be동사, 조동사 외의 모든 동사
  • 3인칭 단수 주어에게 s, es 붙임(현재)

힘 순위

be동사 > 조동사 > 일반동사

의문문

일반동사는 약하기 때문에 주어를 못 뛰어넘음
ex) You like it -> Do you like it?
ex) He likes it -> Does he like(원형) it?

동사 종류 2

• Action Verb : for something happening
• State Verbs : for something staying the same
  • 진행형으로 쓰면 안됨.

• opinion / perception

  know, believe, think, doubt, understand, mean, recognize, prefer, agree/disagree, approve/disapprove, suppose, suspect, forget,remember, realize,

  • We agree with you.
  • We‘re agreeing with you.

• possession

  have, own, belong (to), possess, include, owe

  • I have a bicycle.
  • I‘m having a bicycle.

• emotion

  like, love, prefer, hate, want, need, desire, wish, mind

  • They need some help. / They‘re needing somehelp.

• Senses

  hear, see, sound, smell, taste, feel

  • 감각동사들은 피동의 개념임. 들리다. 보이다. 내가 본게 아니라 보인거임.
  • I hear some music playing. / I‘m hearing some music playing.

  hear -> 상태동사 (내가 듣고 싶지 않아도 청각이 있는 이상 들린거임)
  listen (to) -> 동작동사(Action)

  see -> natural sense except) Movie에서는 See를 씀
  look -> look to focus and concentrate on something
  watch -> something action or moving

• states/relationship/qualities

  be, exist, resemble, cost, weigh, measure, contain,consist (of), depend, involve, deserve, matter

  This piece of meat weighs two pounds. / This piece of meat is weighing two pounds.

• Exception

  • Have
    • I have a car . (State Verb)
    • I'm having breakfast (eating)
    • He's having fun (experiencing)
  • Come
    • I come from Korea (=be State Verb)
    • I'm coming from Korea (travel)
  • Fit
    • The coat fits (=is the right size) State Verb
    • I'm fitting a lock to the window (installing)
  • Be
    • Claie is a very sociable person (permanent quality State Verb)
    • Andrew is being very sociable today (temporary behavior/situation)
    • You are being an idiot this morning
  • See
    • "나 누구 보러가" 일떄는 동작동사
  • Smell/taste
    • 코와 입을 사용하여 테스트할 때 동작동사
  • think/feel
    • 고심할 때 동작동사 (think)
    • been experiencing 할 때 동작동사(feel)
  • weigh/measure
    • 무게를 측정하고 있을 때 동작동사

Simple tenses VS Continuous

cost, like, love

• Permanant state -> Simple tenses

• short period -> Continuous

ex)
I love hamburgers. 난 원래 햄버거 좋아해
I’m loving/enjoying this hamburger 나 원래 안 좋아하는 데 이건 맛있네
