Global AI Week, Hackerthon!
Upstage's SolarLLM is a large language model (LLM) developed by the Korean startup Upstage. It has gained significant recognition, being ranked in the top 20 models by the Nikkei, and achieving a high score of 74.2 on the Hugging Face's open LLM Leaderboard, surpassing many established models (Upstage) (Korea Joongang Daily).
SolarLLM is designed to provide effective language processing capabilities with a parameter scale of 10.7 billion. This is notably smaller than some of its competitors, such as Alibaba's Qwen, which has 72 billion parameters, yet it manages to deliver exceptional performance (Korea Joongang Daily).
The model is purpose-trained for various applications, including healthcare, customer support, finance, and more. It is also designed to operate on devices like LG Gram laptops, allowing for generative AI functions directly on end-user devices (Upstage) (Hugging Face).
SolarLLM is recognized for its efficient scaling and performance, with Upstage planning to expand its reach by collaborating with global tech companies like Amazon Web Services and Poe (Hugging Face).
