Being a good programmer is like a being a good painter. So if I adapt the concept of being a good painter to this programmer world, maybe I can be a decent programmer too.
Definition of good painter (from my perspective) is a painter who really understands the concepts. Concepts like Perspectives, lights, anatomies of living things and etc.
Because, with the understanding of the artistic principles, the painter can produce good art pieces with any given tools: pencil, water color, oil paints, sculpture, or digital art tools. The painter might need some time to get use to the given tool, but it's just a matter of time the painter will make a decent peice of art.
So, I think good programmer is the one's who understands the concept of programming(?). I'm just a beginner so I'm not sure what's the principle of programming. However, any classes that I took to learn how to program had a common: algorithm and data structures. Maybe this is the concept that one MUST understand to be a GOOD PROGRAMMER. With the core knowledge with this, the tools (IDE, programming languages, frameworks, and etc) used to build an app is not a core value to be a good programmer. Just need extra time to adjust one's knowledge with the tools given.
