  1. Put a before a consonant and an before a vowel when you talk about one thing.
    하나의 대상 에는 a 를 붙인다. 모음 발음 앞에는 an 을 붙인다.

    • uniform 처럼 [ju]로 시작되면 모음으로 생각하지 않는다. hour[ˈaʊə(r)]는 모음이므로 an을 사용한다.
    • I have got an orange, an apple, and a book.
  1. a and an can tell you what a person, animal or thing is.
    사람, 동물, 사물이 어떤 것인지 말할 때 쓴다.

    • It's very big and grey. It's got a long nose. It's an elephant.
    • It's got walls, a roof, a door and windows. It's a house.
    • He looks after your teeth. He's a dentist.
    • She writes books. She's an author.
    • A mechanic repairs cars.
    • A hairdresser cuts hair.
  2. When you want to talk about musical instruments that you play use the.
    연주하는 악기 에는 the 를 붙인다.

    • I play the trumphet. I don't play the piano.
    • He's a piano player. He plays the piano.
  3. When you want to talk about sports, countries, meals and subjects you do at school, don't use an article.
    스포츠, 나라, 식사, 과목 에는 article을 쓰지 않는다.

    • Today I am having a peanut butter sandwich for lunch.
    • He has never been to Japan.
    • Ruff can't play tennis but he's good at ice hockey.
    • I had a mud pie for dinner.
    • Can I go and play football?
    • We are going to Greece on holiday.
  4. a and an can means "every".
    시간을 의미하는 명사와 쓰여서 every 를 의미하기도 한다.

    • I brush my teeth three times a day.
    • I go on holiday twice a year.
    • He as breakfast five times a week.
    • How often do you go shopping? I go shopping one a month.
    • How often do you watch TV? I watch TV once a day.
    • How often do you go to the dentist? I go to the dentist three time a year.

Words

have got : have와 동일한 의미로 구어체에서 다수 사용. 하지만 "먹다" 의미로는 사용하지 않는다.
look after (something) : take care of (something) 돌보다. care하다.
I had a peanut pie for lunch. 나는 피넛파이를 점심으로 먹었어
How often do you ~? : 얼마나 자주 ~ 하니? 대답은 ~ 부분과 똑같이 하면 됨.
have been to (장소명사). (장소)에 가본 적이 있어.
