Scratch Work

Theorem 1.31

(Q  is dense in  R)(\mathbb{Q} \; \text{is dense in} \; \mathbb{R}). The rational numbers are dense in the real numbers.

There exists some mnQ\frac{m}{n} \in \mathbb{Q} (with m,nZm,n \in \mathbb{Z}) such that x<mn<yx < \frac{m}{n} < y.

그런데 yx>0y-x > 0 이므로 아르키메데스의 원리로 부터 there exist some nNn \in \mathbb{N} such that n(yx)>1n(y-x) > 1을 함의 합니다.

그러면

n(yx)>1nynx>1\begin{aligned} n(y-x) > 1 \\ ny-nx > 1 \end{aligned}

There is some integer mm with nx<m<nynx < m < ny.

0<x<mny<mn<x<00 < x < \frac{m}{n} \Rightarrow -y < \frac{-m}{n} < -x < 0

\blacksquare
