항상 큰 꿈을 가져라고 배웠고 그게 마땅히 모두가 그래야하는 덕이라고 느껴질만큼 별 의심없이 고개만 끄덕였었다. 하지만 이번 영상을 보면서 그 생각이 좀 깨졌다.
어떤 사람은 별을 보지만 리누즈 토발즈는 본인을 땅을 보는 사람이고 땅에 구멍이 있어면 그것을 메꾸는 사람이라고 했다. 이 부분에서 감명받았다.
그러고보니 그가 TED 출연하기 전 이틀 간 왜 불편해 했는지도 이해가 간다.
Interviewer: You're a very smart computer coder, and you're hellish stubborn. But there must be something else. I mean, you've changed the future. You must have the ability of these grand visions of the future. You're a visionary, right?
Linus: I've actually felt slightly uncomfortable at TED for the last thew days, because there's a lot of vision going on, right? And I am not a visionary. I do not have a five-year plan. I'm an engineer.
Linus: I'm perfectly happy with all the people who are walking around and just staring at the clouds and looking at the stars and saying, "I want to go there."
But I'm looking at the ground, and I want to fix the pothole that's right in front of me before I fall in. This is the kind of person I am.
